Leigh Bowery and Fat Gill at the Alternative Miss World

Back in 1983, Leigh Bowery got together with his friend/slave Fat Gill to

make an appearance as "Mr. and Ms. Bucket" at the famous Andrew
Logan's

Alternative Miss Universe. Their performance was amazing, with Gill fully

naked wearing a weird white make-up and Leigh wearing a red bucket on

his head.

In 1972 Andrew Logan instigated the first Alternative Miss World,

one of his most spectacular achievements,

which began modestly and soon became an institution.

The first contest was held in his studio in Hackney.

The idea started with his love of parties.

Whether sculpting in glass, bejewelling the rich and famous,

or acting as exotic host to the globe's most outrageous fashion show,

Andrew Logan's trademark is clear: a celebration of colour, invention and
nerve. 

His Alternative Miss World extravaganzas have acquired legendary status.

  Celebrities such as David Hockney, Zandra Rhodes, Divine, Anita Roderick,


Brian Eno, Derek Jarman and many, many more have acted

as waiters at table,  judges, contestants and inspired participants in
a living art show.
